Are electric mountain bikes allowed on single track in Aspen? No. Your best bet is to enjoy the dirt fire roads near town. Summer rd starts in town and goes to the top of Aspen Mountain where you can enjoy a meal at the Sundeck and soak up the views. The other options for a descent from the top of Aspen mtn include Little Annie’s or Midnight Mine rd. The least technical ascent / descent in order; Little Annies, Midnight Mine, Summer rd. Other dirt rd options are Smuggler Road to Warren Lakes (steep and loose) or Lincoln Creek rd. (car shuttle recomended).

What road rides do we recommend? Maroon Creek Rd is about 12 miles from town to the top. A gorgeous ride with about 1,400 ft of climbing. It is closed to cars in the summer. Castle Creek rd is another beautiful alpine ride up to the ghost town of Ashcroft or a bit further to the Pine Creek Cookhouse (reservations required - Closed Mon. and Teus. For those looking for epic rides you can do the “Double Dip” which is both Maroon Creek and Castle Creek with an easy connection at the base of either road. For the elite climbers you can ride from town to the top of Independance Pass a 40 mile round trip with 4,144 ft of elevation gain.

What mountain bike rides do you recommend? First off, we highly recommend dowloading the app MTB Project or Trailforks to explore the local trail systems. Note all rides leave the valley floor and require a minimum 600 ft of climbing. We recommend single track that branches off of Smuggler rd (Loilpop, Tootsie Roll, Humming Bird) these are physically difficult and moderately technical. We also recommend any and all the trails in The Sky Mountain Park network of trails. These start by the airport and feature alot of machine made banked turns. Too many trails to list (see app).
